Question by : what charges can be brought if someone throws coffee in your face i was not burned i am a peace officer in nys?
i sprained my hand trying to subdue the inmate who was resisting i also received a scratch on my left eye i was placed on light duty for six days
i should have specified that the sheriff of my facility refuses to charge the inmate says i have no case looking for some answers to have for back up when i confront him seeing as he is my boss.

isn’t that considered an assault to a peace officer? if you received a scratch to your eye it could be assault with bodily harm but not sure…just a guess

Are you kidding me????????????? You cant be a Peace OFFICER if you dont know that answer…..Its called assault on an officer…I am sure if you were placed on light duty by your superiors that charges are all ready filed and your inmate will have more time added to his sentence

If you were a peace officer you would not need to ask here.
It is called assault on a cop. You can add extra time to their jail sentence should they be found guilty of assaulting a cop.
Geez. You should join a law enforcement forum and ask this sort of question in an LEO-only section. They’ll tell you what kind of charges you can file against the inmate, what you can do about your command structure that refuses to support you, and what you really should have done to the inmate after he assaulted you. If the inmate wasn’t left on the floor in a pool of his own blood, you were probably a little too light on him.
You are a peace officer? And no nothing off the law. Sounds normal to me. Drop it this time. And devote some time to learning your job. Be best for all. Or quit and get a job you can understand.
