    OK, I’ll bite. What happens if you *don’t* have your arm bent at 90 degrees? And what if you use your thumb and middle finger?

    the idea is that the only variable you ever want to adjust is the grind. So a method of dosing/tamping that remains consistant is key. the bent arm lets you apply weight more consistantly with less chance of strain. The finger thing is to help keep your tamper level. an off kilter tamped puck of coffee will extract unevenly.

    When flickr begins allowing short movie clips I’ll post one of this. Kyle especially moves very quickly – I had a lot of blurry pics before I caught this one.

    excellent tip, thanks! I’ve ended up with a few off-kilter pucks exactly as you’ve described.
