The term 'AA' is a classification of
coffee. All African coffee beans are graded
after they are milled, with grades assigned based on
the screen size of the bean. Coffee beans with a screen size of
17 or 18 (17/64 or 18/64 of an inch) are assigned the grade AA,
considered by many to be a sign of high quality
coffee.
Zimbabwe's climate is largely tropical, but
this is moderated by altitude. The terrain of Zimbabwe is
mostly high plateau with higher central plateau and a
mountainous range in the east. Coffee production is
chiefly along the border of
Mozambique.
Zimbabwe
farms over 9,500 hectares in coffee. The majority of the crop
is grown at an altitude of 4500 feet. The most popular
method of drying the coffee beans is in the sun, followed by
six to eight weeks of conditioning. This, coupled with the
unique growing conditions and the care farmers take in
cultivation, results in a coffee that has a rich aroma and
slightly spicy flavor.
