Ethiopia is known as the
birthplace of coffee, with cultivation recorded as
far back as the eleventh century.
The arabica coffee plant grew wild in the
high forests of the Kaffa region. It was also found in the
Harrar region quite early, and today Harrar coffee beans
are some of the most prized varietals from
Africa. They are known for their complex, fruity
flavor that resembles a dry red wine.
Ethiopian Yirgacheff coffee is named for
the growing area surrounding the town of Yirgacheffe, and
recognized as one of the premium coffee beans in the
world.
