Coffee
was introduced to the country of Colombia in the early
1800s, and cultivation for trade purposes began around
1835.Throughout the 20th century, coffee beans were the
main export from Colombia, with nearly 75% of the coffee crop
exported. In 1999, coffee bean represented 3.7% of the national
income.
Colombian
coffee is highly marketed and widely available. They have been
largely successful at equating the name Colombian coffee with
good coffee, thanks in large part to a man and his
burro!
